Northeast Regional Medical Center Names Patrick J. Avila as Chief Executive Officer

Kirksville, Mo. (August 4, 2023) – Northeast Regional Medical Center has named Missouri native Patrick J. Avila, MBA, FACHE, as chief executive officer effective September 11, 2023. Patrick brings more than 25 years of healthcare operations experience.

Most recently, Patrick has served as president and chief executive officer at Merrick Medical Center in Central City, NE. During his tenure there, the hospital experienced significant growth and moved into a newly constructed multi-million dollar critical access facility. Patrick’s focus at Merrick Medical Center, which is part of Bryan Health System, has been on rebuilding community relationships, re-establishing engagement with the medical staff and employees, and increasing market share by adding new and expanding existing service lines.
Prior to joining Merrick, Patrick held operations and compliance roles at three Missouri hospitals. As chief operating officer for Belton Regional Medical Center in Belton, MO, he initiated the hospital’s robotic surgery program, led physician recruitment efforts, enhanced employee and leader engagement. Patrick has also served as vice president of operations and ethics and compliance officer at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, a 590-bed multi-campus facility. He began his tenure at HCA as associate administrator and ethics and compliance officer at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, MO. Patrick began his healthcare career at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO, as a physical therapist, ultimately serving as director of rehabilitation services and occupational medicine and later interim assistant administrator.
A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Patrick holds a master’s degree in business administration from University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master’s degree in physical therapy from University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He earned a bachelor’s degree in life sciences from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS.
