Lactation Services
Lactation consultant services at Northeast Regional Medical Center consist of a registered nurse who is certified through the Academy of Lactation Policy & Practice. Through this service, we provide education, support and guidance for parents who choose to breastfeed their infant(s).
Northeast Regional Medical Center Lactation Consultation Provides:
- Infant feeding guidance and support following delivery
- Assistance for breastfeeding mothers during any hospitalization
- Education on health benefits of breastfeeding
- Resources and information on breast pumps and breastfeeding accessories
- Emotional support when starting a breastfeeding journey

Benefits to Mother
Mothers who breastfeed their babies can have a lower risk of:
- Breast cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
Benefits to Baby
Babies who are breastfed often have a lower risk of:
- Asthma
- Obesity
- Type 1 diabetes
- Severe lower respiratory disease
- Acute otitis media (ear infections)
- Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
- Gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea/vomiting)
- Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) for preterm infants
