Speech Therapy
Speech therapists (also known as speech-language pathologists) evaluate, diagnose and treat patients with a wide variety of conditions that affect oral motor skills, swallowing, and speech and language abilities. Speech therapists at Northeast Regional Medical Center work closely with neurologists, ENT (ear, nose and throat) doctors and other specialists to thoroughly evaluate patients and treat a variety of conditions.
Our services:
- Laryngectomy rehabilitation - voice prosthesis evaluation and placement for larynx cancer patients.
- Neurological speech-language disorders therapy - rehabilitation for aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia and cognitive communication deficits.
- Pediatric rehabilitation - evaluation and treatment for language development, articulation, phonological disorders, reading, writing, augmentative communication, cognitive development, behavior modification, feeding and swallowing.
- Stuttering disorders treatment - treatment for pediatric and adult patients.
- Therapy for swallowing/dysphagia disorders - modified barium swallow studies performed by speech-language pathologists and radiologists. Treatment includes diet modifications, swallowing compensations, neuromuscular electrical stimulation and oral, pharyngeal and laryngeal exercises.
- Therapy for voice disorders - treatment for vocal problems in both pediatric and adult patients.
